rolling stairs | Natalie Mulyawan

Inspired by the ideas of small living, the concept of the design is to create a stair that would take up a minimal square footage while serving multiple purposes. All the while, keeping the design innovative and minimal; simple for residential or private users.

In its base form, the structure has a maximum depth of 23″ from the edge of the wall. The upper shelves could also be used for storage since they are, likely, less frequently used. The middle shelf can be pulled out to form a desk with adequate leg space below when seated on a stool. The lower shelves could be pulled out to form steps, while the lowest one fully extends to provide secondary support when mounting. Compression brakes are also integrated into the wheels on the structure, this will automatically activate the brakes when weight if applied on it.

    Nice diagram showing the movement.
Nice development from the concept to the final drawing.
Clear explode view showing every detail of the connection.
The design of the stair should be based on the movement of the people, I think the bottom side of the stair is good but the top three stairs looks not so connecting to the whole units.
The function is not showing so well on the middle table part.
The movement of the middle staircase did not support the whole rolling system, I think it can change by the situation or have a different layer of different moving system.
The bottom side movement show add some stable system.
    Nice work.
